In addition to the invasion of Iraq, another important reason to vote against McCain is the Republican Party's treatment of the gay and lesbian community. I'm sorry, but gay Republican is an oxymoron. How can any GLBT person support a party thats seeks to deny him/her the most basic rights guaranteed under the Constitution? I'm not talking about gay marriage. That's a topic for another day. I'm talking about equal job opportunity, fair housing, inheritance rights, adoption, and protection from hate crimes. Some states and cities are more progressive, but, in Alabama, a gay person can be fired for no reason other than his sexual orientation.
Everyone has heard of the brutal, senseless murder of Matthew Shepard. A similar event happened right here in a small town near Mobile, Alabama. A young, gay man was brutally beaten, murdered and set afire. This same young man had dropped out of high school because he was harassed by the other students.
Regardless of your views on the economy, abortion, or health care coverage, every GLBT person needs to get off his/her butt and support Obama in November. In fact, every person who loves a GLBT family member or has GLBT friends should vote Democratic in November.
If you need another reason to vote Democratic, consider the state of the economy under the current administration.
