Norway grants equal marriage rights to all

On June 17, 2008, the Norwegian Parliament passed a law granting equal marriage rights to all of its citizens, regardless of gender. Beginning January 1, 2009, gay and lesbian couples can legally wed in Norway. Norway joins the growing list of countries such as Canada and Spain who recognize gays and lesbians as first class citizens entitled to the same legal protections as everyone else. Sadly, the U.S. government continues to deny a substantial portion of its citizens the rights guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution.

Norway has long been a progressive country. Although Nazi Germany occupied Norway during much of WWII, the Norwegian Government never capitulated, and Norwegian citizens were active in the resistance.
